Chelating Ligands as Electrolyte Solvent for Rechargeable Zinc-Ion Batteries

نویسندگان

چکیده

Rechargeable zinc-ion batteries (RZIBs) are mostly powered by aqueous electrolytes. However, uncontrolled water interactions often confer a small voltage window and poor battery capacity retention. Here, we explore replacing with ethylene glycol as the primary solvent in zinc electrolyte formulations. The assembled reveal suppressed electrolyte-induced parasitic reactions, leading to (1) expanded stability windows up 2.2 V, (2) prolonged stripping/plating 2.4 times longer compared water-based counterparts, (3) doubled cathode retentions observed full-cell Zn-FeVO4 RZIBs. Using combination of synchrotron EXAFS FTIR, investigate molecular level salt-solvent explain how chelation ability EG ligands reduces reactions enable enhanced electrochemical performances. structural insights should provide guidelines on selection salt, concentration, chelating solvents for robust multivalent-ion systems.

Electrochemical properties of an aluminum anode in an ionic liquid electrolyte for rechargeable aluminum-ion batteries.

An aluminum metal, both native and with a very thin oxide film, was investigated as an anode for aluminum-ion batteries. Investigations were carried out in an acidic ionic liquid electrolyte, composed of AlCl3 in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([EMIm]Cl), with β-MnO2/C as a cathode. The battery based on Al metal with a very thin oxide film showed high capacity and stable surface corrosion.

Electrode Materials for Rechargeable Sodium-Ion Batteries: Potential Alternatives to Current Lithium-Ion Batteries

Lithium (Li)-ion batteries (LIB) have governed the current worldwide rechargeable battery market due to their outstanding energy and power capability. In particular, the LIB’s role in enabling electric vehicles (EVs) has been highlighted to replace the current oil-driven vehicles in order to reduce the usage of oil resources and generation of CO 2 gases. Unlike Li, sodium is one of the more abu...
